Talking web sites
May 12th, 2006Do you still have a static web site with pages like products services, portfolio and contact us? How many visitors do you get? How much business have you made from it lately?
These days even if you have a cool looking site but don’t talk about it, chances are you are not getting enough exposure.
What you need to do is talk about it. Blogs are a good way to do that. Like mine your whole site does not need to become a blog. You can have it as another section like yourcompany.com/blog or blog.yourcompany.
The important thing is to start talking about it. For example this is a blog about my company and what I do. There are probably hundreds of thousands of people doing exactly what I do that is web software development. But I can improve my chances to get work my talking here.
This does not mean that everyone should trash their existing web sites and start blogging. It is not as easy as it looks. It’s easy to talk about day to day things, but to make it engaging and to make people come back takes a bit more work.
The point is if you can deliver something interesting regularly you can attract enough people to get your business moving. Think of it as 1 to 1 press releases where you deliver your pitch to customers directly.
If blogging is not your thing. Start with traditional mediums like email. Write a regular newsletter to you clients, friends and family about your company and see the results rolling in.
I have heard many times from clients that they just don’t get enough business from their web sites. When I ask them when they updated the web site last most of the time they don’t know.
The web is an immediate medium if your content is old you are loosing out. So start talking on and about your website today.
